When you purchase your RV, some customers wish for a tow bar to be installed.
What needs to happen to achieve this? On a Motorhome with a GVM “Gross Vehicle Mass“ exceeding 3500KG it is required to have a LT400 certification on any towbar application. The best way around this is to contact an engineering company or take your RV to a towbar specialist like Towbar Express or Tow Right. They can design and build as required, do the lighting circuit and have the LT400 done. In most cases you will see this cost between $3000 to $4000 depending on what is required. Some more intricate install may cost more. Any RV with a GVM “Gross Vehicle Mass” under 3500KG is little simpler. You can take your RV to the same towbar specialist, but they do not require the LT400 certification as they fall under the WOF guidelines. It is still important you have this done by a trained professional so you can insure the application will do what it is designed to do and not fail. Some RVs may have good pulling power but due to the long overhang and chassis extensions you may find the towbar down weight load is a lot less. It is important you check this and most people see this as an oversight. They tend to focus on and what it can tow in pulling power and not the vertical down weight stress on the towbar installation.
